CPP reshuffles leaders at first party conference




17 August 2010: The Chin Progressive Party (CPP) has gone in for a major reshuffle in its leadership and selected 11 candidates for different constituencies at the party’s first conference on August 13 and 14 at its Yangon head office. The move comes following the military junta’s official announcement of November 7 as the election date in Burma.

The party spokesperson and new President told Khonumthung News that there were 33 representatives who attended the conference.

It selected Pu Nothankap as President, Pu Liancea as President (1), Pu Kham Do Nang as President (2)and Pu Dai thung as General Secretary . Eleven candidates were selected for contesting the polls.


“There is no change in the post of General Secretary, held by Pu Dai Thung and other leaders. We have already nominated candidates for all constituencies in each Township,” he said.

“We are expecting to win in Paletwa, Mindat, Kanpalet, Matupi, Falam, Tonzang, Kalemyo and Tamu townships with people’s support,” he said. Although he did not mention the list of candidates for the constituencies, he promised that the party will act in keeping with the 2008 constitution for the development of Chin state and its people.

In Chin state, two political parties the Chin Progressive Party (CPP) and the Chin National Party (CNP), representing Chin people, will be in the election fray and contest against each other on 7 November.

Besides, other parties the MRO or Khami National Solidarity Organization (MKNSO) and Mara Ethnic Party will also contest the election in Chin state. - Khonumthung News
